BILL BARR IS NO SLOUCH

you must admit that Barr knows how to play Trump like a fiddle.  At the same time that he does something fireable like telling the truth about the 2020 election, Barr throws Trump a fake bone, like a special counsel who will not outlast a new attorney general, for the President to blissfully gnaw at.

Colbert Cracks Trump: He’s “Undefeated at Losing” | Vanity Fair

President Donald Trump’s fading fantasy of overturning democracy to stay in office was dealt another blow on Monday afternoon when Attorney General William Barr told the Associated Press that the Department of Justice had found no evidence of widespread voter fraud.

“He will be missed,” Vanity Fair cover star Stephen Colbert quipped of Barr on Monday’s episode of The Late Show. (Indeed, on Monday, Axios reportedthat Trump had “mused privately” about replacing the attorney general before leaving office on January 20.)

In recounting Barr’s interview, Colbert noted the attorney general “went out of his way to discredit one insane claim that the president’s lawyers have been pushing, about a Venezuelan voting system being programmed to give the election to Biden.”

As Barr told the Associated Press, “There’s been one assertion that would be systemic fraud, and that would be the claim that machines were programmed essentially to skew the election results. And the DHS and DOJ have looked into that, and so far, we haven’t seen anything to substantiate that.”

The attorney general also added, “To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election.”

“Fraud on a scale, also known as the president’s annual physical,” Colbert said, with a delivery that would have made Henny Youngman proud.

Barr’s comments came as multiple states where Trump had contested the election results actually moved forward to certify the respective ballot counts for President-Elect Joe Biden.

“The president has failed to stop the vote certification in all six states where he contested his defeat,” Colbert said. “So that’s 0 and six in the certifications and 0 and three in recounts, and he hasn’t won a single fraud case. He’s undefeated at losing. He is the Michael Jordan of playing baseball.”

Of particularly humiliating note, Colbert said, was Trump’s partial recount in Wisconsin. The president paid $3 million for the recount, which netted Biden 87 more votes.

“He just keeps making it worse,” Colbert said in disbelief. “He’s like a guy at a custody hearing saying, ‘Your honor, my wife has made it seem like I’m a delinquent father and a terrible gambler, but how would she know any of that? I’m always at the casino.’”

But while “Wisconsin is a total embarrassment,” Colbert said, “Arizona’s worse.”

In that state, Republican Governor Doug Ducey certified the election results over the weekend and appeared to ignore a call from the president in the process. Cameras picked up Ducey’s phone playing “Hail to the Chief” to announce an incoming call; the governor had previously claimed to use the song as a ringtone for the White House

“The president called him while he was signing, and the government sent him straight to voice mail,” Colbert surmised. “That is a guy who’s picked up that phone once too often: ‘Yes, Mr. President, you told me. Massive dumps. Right. Listen, I gotta go. Arizona is going through a tunnel...” The host then mimicked loud static and interference, perhaps an appropriate sound to replicate as the Trump administration continues to wind itself down.
