P.C. RUN AMOK?

For many years the majority of citizens of New Orleans have been black.  For many years there has been a gigantic statue of Robert E. Lee, a man who had no direct connection with city,  dominating the skyline in a busy part of the city.  The statue was removed, after 133 years, against the protests of a minority of the city dwellers and is being stored until a final resting place is found for it.

Now my conservative friends call that Political Correctness run amok.  They feel  that the fact that the statue was offensive to some of the citizens should have no bearing on what happened to the monument, however, if the majority of the citizens erected a monument to William Tecumseh Sherman, who likewise had no connection to the city of New Orleans, that indeed  would be offensive and beyond all understanding.
