REASONS FOR NOT APPOINTING A SPECIAL PROSECUTOR

It is ironic that the same people who did not want a special prosecutor appointed to investigate Hillary Clinton don't want one to investigate Trump, but for diametrically opposed reasons.  In the former case, they were concerned that a special prosecutor would prevent them from continuous Congressional investigations, ad nauseum, of Hillary, for political reasons, whereas a special prosecutor for Trump might lead to actual criminal convictions thus ending the need for any more investigations.

THE TREACHERY OF THE PRESS

After having given an estimated $2.5 Billion, in free advertising space, to the Trump Campaign, which contributed to his having been elected to the office of the Presidency, has been attacking that same group as the "Lying Press"  After all, as Trump is reported to have said. "What have they done for me, lately?"

THE TREACHERY OF THE F.B.I.

The anger of Donald Trump, against the F.B.I., for the leaking of unclassified information, detrimental to the Trump Administration, may very well be justified.  When one considers how seamlessly the Trump Campaign worked with the F.B.I. to assure that Hillary would lose the election, they, justifiably felt that their request that the F.B.I. interfere in the Russian involvement matter, would be treated as confidential.  Is that any way to treat former allies?

WHY SO MANY GENERALS?

We have been told, by Donald Trump, that he knows more than the Generals do.  Perhaps this is rightfully so, since he is the Commander-in Chief, which brings up the question, then, why does he have so many Generals in Cabinet posts.  Wouldn't it have been better for him, to find and put into office, men with more expertise?

THE LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT.

The Donald Trump that proudly announces that he will not, prematurely, reveal his strategy for defeating ISIS, is the same Donald Trump who has declared that the United States is wrong for not having taken Iraq's oil resources after it invaded Iraq in 2002. His declaration, of course, was made while our Armed Forces were fighting alongside Iraqi Forces against ISIS.  I'm sure Trump sees no connection between revealing long term strategy, which he approves, and short term strategy of which he disapproves.

FIGHTING HARD TO OVERTURN THE 2016 ELECTION

Donald Trump is off again, on the campaign trail, intent on, this time, winning the 2016 Presidential election.  Trump is never happier than when he is winning that election, and his supporters are looking forward to seeing him, once again, in the old familiar places, reveling in numbers of electoral votes he can collect.

TRUMP IS A TRUE CONSERVATIVE

The first month of the Trump Administration has proven to be no honeymoon and a really rough patch.  It has, however, proven that Trump is a true conservative.  Facing a slew of problems, Trump has shown his conservative credentials by reaching out to find things on which to blame his present predicament.  He blames the Intelligence community, the media, and Hillary Clinton's campaign for all of his problems, deflecting any blame for his own actions and policies.  A true conservative.

THE AGE OF DOUBLE THINK HAS ARRIVED

The Age of Doublethink, as predicted by George Orwell, has indeed arrived.  On Tuesday, February 12th, we were asked to believe that Trump fired his national security advisor, Michael Flynn,  owing to an erosion of trust stemming from a lie to V.P. Pence.  The following day, citizens were told to believe that Flynn was an exemplary person who was tragically forced out of office by a malevolent press that specialized in fake news.  There was no attempt to rectify the difference between the two stories; we citizens were expected to believe in both of the mutually conflicting stories, at the same time, without apologies.

EROSION OF TRUST

Trump asked for the resignation of General Flynn, he says, because of his erosion of trust in the General.  Since he, Trump, withheld the news, imparted by the Acting Attorney General, about Flynn's calls, to the Russian Embassy, from Vice President Pence for eleven days, it undoubtedly signaled that Trump's trust in Pence had either eroded as well or never existed.   Will he be asked to resign as well?  If so, he would be well advised to appoint Barack Obama, in place of Pence, to run things for him.

EMEND THE 22ND AMENDMENT

This nation needs the return of Obama to the office of the Presidency.  Time to emend the 22nd Amendment!

AN ALTERNATIVE POLICY

Before 1964, I was a registered Democrat.  I left them, that year, because of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution which escalated our involvement in an unjust war in Vietnam. I remained an independent even though Democrats eventually turned against that war, because, time after time they demonstrated a lack of testicular fortitude when confronted by moral choices.

Soon Democrats may face a choice in whether to filibuster the Gorsuch nomination to the Supreme Court or to wait for a more politically propitious time.  I fear that by choosing the latter, they will break the growing spirit of Resistance to the Trump Administration.

In such an eventuality, I offer as an alternative to working with the Democrats, that the movement be directed to taking over the Republican Party, by participating in the 2018 Primaries. The Republicans are a minority party and really the weaker of the two. If they can be taken over it will allow both parties to begin the work of rehabilitating this nation.  Even if it is not possible to take them over, just the possibility of a primary challenge weakens Republican candidates knees and affects their behavior.

GUEST POST

New post on The Octogenarians

Thanatos & Destruido

by daedal2207
There appears to be a race going on between the moral and structural disintegration of the country and the destruction of Trump's administration.Voices are being raised nationwide expressing some kind of dissatisfaction.Health care and the ACA as an resiss double talk. The nation is alarmed by indications of collaboration between the Trump campaign and Putin's Russia with promises made to undo sanctions imposed by President Obama and likely to be maintained if not expanded by Hillary Clinton. While party loyalty determines action nothing will be done, but true patriotism is beginning to appear in Republican ranks.People like McCain and Linsey Graham will not let this alone nor the Senate Ethic committee leader from Utah.
The ban on Muslims will not subside as an issue.Academics are abandoning their ivory towers to band together to protect their sciences. How much damage can be done by even a temporary ban? Of course if the reason for the ban can be identified as involving religious discrimination then constitutionality as an issue will doom it.
Rachel Maddow raises a rumor that Putin is giving Edward Snowden back as a " gift".Hopefully unfounded but with everything else unraveling Snowden would be a hair all of a gift!!

TRUMP CUTS INTO BIG PHARMA PROFITS

Trump has, rightfully, called attention to the obscene profits of Big Pharma, on several occasions both during his campaign and, recently after his inauguration. In a recent meeting, however, it appears the problem was resolved, favorably for Trump, and those profits are no longer obscene.  It is reported that Big Pharma will be making contributions to favorite Trump causes thus reducing the size of those profits, at least for Big Pharma.  The difference will be known as the Trump Cut and is expected to be used, extensively, in future negotiations with other industries.
